# 23 summary of Web 2.0

It has been really good to see what is out there and what people are using on the net. I especially liked the Library Thing, podcasts; Facebook; and the whole idea of blogging to share information.
Some of the processes to do things were a little tedious or wouldn't work on the machine I was using.
The online word processing / spreadsheets is a useful thing too.

# 22 downloading audio books

I like the idea of the library subscribing, so that borrowers can download and listen on their mp3. Again there are so many resources that we could use online.

# 21 Podcasts

Podcasts and are great for working people who like to listen to Radio National. The programs can be downloaded and listened to whenever. Great for long trips in the car. Another great education tool as demonstrated by the Web 2.0 training

# 20 You tube

Lots of interesting stuff here. If only there was time to watch some of it! Great as an education tool as well.

#14 and # 15 technorati and Library 2.0 info

I read through all this and I guess if blogs were used a lot the Technorati would be useful. Library 2.0 gives lot of food for thought. The online world is constantly changing with the digital native generation almost living online communicating with friends; downloading music and film sharing photos;. Libraries need to tap in to this world somehow to remain relevant to the younger generation

# 19 Web 2.0 awards

I ended up on Facebook. I can see email will be the new snailmail, as the younger generation seem to communicate via this and Myspace. It amazing just how easy it is to find people and send them a message. It is a great time water though!

# 18 online applications

These are great. I have already shown a library patron how to use Zoho Writer. She was delighted.
Bill Gates might be worried!

#16 wikis

Wikis have all sorts of applications in libraries. It could be useful as a homework help tool for young learners. As children find information about a common topic they could add it to the wiki. They could include links to websites that were useful; titles of books that they used etc.
I especially liked the Booklovers Wiki from Princeton Library. Something like this would be great to have on our library website.

#13 Del.icio.us

This looks like a very useful tool to promote to people who use the public internet terminals or who use the internet on a number of computers. Favourites are then always available.

#12 Rollyo

This could be useful to collect a set of suitable sites for children to use for homework help that have information at a particular level. eg www.kidcyber.com the blog could be added to the library home page. Unfortunatley the process to add it to my blog was very complicated and I was almost through when a "this page cannot be displayed" came up.

#11 Library thing

This is a great "thing" .I can see how I could use it to share ideas of books to read with friends who live in distant parts. It would also be useful to record the books in a private library. It looks like a very useful resource.

Here is my list so far.

#10

I have had a look at some of the image generators and like the look of some of them. The mosaic maker, calendar etc would be fun to play with.

#8 RSS feeds

I have spent some time having a look at the bloglines site and subscribing to some feeds. It would be great for people who use the web a lot to look at overseas news or who subscribe to podcasts etc. As I don't read too much news online I am not sure that I would use it, but it is good to know that it is there.

# 5-7 Flickr

I had a go at making a trading card but would like to add a photo. The mash up would be good for showing places on maps on the website. A picture of the library on a map of the town.
